5 Ways To Connect To An Already Installed Ring Doorbell

There are situations when you don’t have to buy a new Ring Doorbell. Sometimes, you don’t even know the model or specs of the security camera. In that case, this may come as a bonus where the previous tenant leaves you with the already installed Ring Doorbell.

At this point, you should be happy not having to pay for the Ring Doorbell installation. However, you will need to reconnect from scratch to the old Ring Doorbell. It requires removing the previous credentials and setting up a Ring Doorbell again.

We will discuss 5 ways to connect to an already installed Ring Doorbell.

Reset The Ring Doorbell

The Ring Doorbell is connected through the Ring App, and the owner controls everything. You cannot connect to a Ring Doorbell unless the previous owner resets the Ring Doorbell. The process is very similar to resetting the Ring Stick-Up Cam.

How To Factory Reset The Ring Doorbell

There’s a different procedure for every Ring Doorbell model, but one way or the other, they all are the same. 

  1. Unscrew the screws and remove the Ring Doorbell from the bracket. 
  2. Hold the orange button on your device’s back for 10 seconds.
  3. The light on the front of the doorbell will flash for a few minutes. 
  4. When the light goes out, the restart is done.

Once the manual Ring Doorbell reset is complete, you will have to remove the device from the Ring App.

How To Remove The Ring Device From Ring App

  1. Open the Ring App and select the Video Doorbell.
  2. Tap Device Settings.
  3. Tap General Settings.
  4. Tap Remove this Device.

After removing the previous owner from Ring Doorbell and Ring App, you can connect to an already installed Ring Doorbell using the Ring App.

Download The Ring App and Make an Account

  1. Download the Ring App on the App Store and PlayStore.
  2. Open the Ring app.
  3. Select Create Account.
  4. Follow the in-app prompts to create a new account.

Scan The QR Code To Connect To An Already Installed Ring Doorbell

  1. Open the Ring app and tap on the menu.
  2. Tap Set up a Device, and choose Doorbells.
  3. Click “I’m Ready to Scan.
  4. Point your smartphone’s camera at the QR code on the Ring device. (The QR code is on the back side of the Ring Doorbell).
  5. When the code is read, a green area and a picture of your device pop up.

How To Tell What Ring Video Doorbell You Have?

You can easily find out if you are curious about the already installed Ring Doorbell model. Once the Ring device setup is complete, follow the steps below.

  1. Open The Ring App and tap the menu.
  2. Tap Devices.
  3. Select the recently set up Ring doorbell.
  4. Tap Device Health
  5. Look for Device Details.
  6. You can find the product model under Device Details.

Connect Your Ring Doorbell To WiFi

Once you have set up the Ring account, it’s time to reconnect your Ring Doorbell to a new WiFi network. You should complete this step before. After all, when the previous tenant moves out, you may have a new WiFi network. Even if the WiFi network is the same, you will have to reconnect Ring Doorbell to WiFi to make it fully functional. After all, the functionality of Ring Doorbells is minimal without WiFi.

  1. Open the Ring app and tap on the menu.
  2. Tap Devices and select the Ring Doorbell to reconnect.
  3. Tap the Device Health.
  4. Under Network, tap Change Network.
  5. Tap Change Wifi Network, then follow the Ring app prompts.


There’s a difference between powering off Ring Doorbell and setting up and connecting to an already installed Ring Doorbell. Suppose you live in an apartment or a congested place with a weak WiFi connection. In that case, you may consider installing Ring Chime or Chime Pro. Besides sending high voice alerts, these chimes also act as a WiFi Extender.
